Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars Program

High school seniors or recent graduates planning to teach math, science, elementary education, or special education at a West Virginia-approved institution may apply for the Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars Program.

Recipients receive up to $10,000 per year, renewable for up to four years. Up to 25 scholars are selected annually. Recipients commit to five years of teaching in a West Virginia public school critical-need field after graduation.

Submit the preliminary application by December 31. Selected applicants advance through a second-round application, FAFSA completion, and a finalist video. A FAFSA on file is required.
