Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA)

Canadian citizens or permanent residents registered in a University of Toronto bachelor's program with a cumulative average of B- or higher may apply for an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award through their host institution. Graduating students may hold the award in the summer immediately after completing their undergraduate program if they have not started graduate study.

Each award is $6,000 plus a required host supplement ($7,500 total at UTM) for 14-16 weeks of full-time summer research from May 1 to August 31. Applications go through the supervising faculty member's department; the UTM department internal deadline is March 3, 2026.
