About this scholarship

Maryland community college transfer applicants with a 3.5 or higher GPA who earn an associate degree or 56 credits (with the most recent 30 from a Maryland community college) may compete for the Frederick Douglass Scholarship at UMD.

Forty-five awards are granted annually: 30 full-tuition and 15 partial-tuition scholarships. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or qualify for in-state tuition and be Maryland residents.

Submit the FDS application, a 500-word essay, two recommendations, and a resume by March 1. Finalists are invited to campus interviews in late March or early April.
