About this scholarship

Individual Rhode Island high school students attending public, private, charter, or registered homeschool programs may apply. Previous recipients are ineligible. Applicants must pitch how they would use $1 million to improve the lives of those most in need in Rhode Island.

Ten finalists receive one-time scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. The top winner receives a $25,000 scholarship plus $1 million in project funding. Scholarships may cover tuition, housing, and healthcare.

Submit an essay (under 1,000 words), video (under three minutes), or multimedia pitch. Group projects are not accepted. The competition is merit-based with no financial need consideration.

What else to submit

  • One individual essay of fewer than 1,000 words, video of fewer than three minutes, or comparable multimedia pitch explaining how $1 million would improve the lives of those most in need in Rhode Island.
  • Submission may alternatively be a video no longer than 3 minutes or a comparable multi-media presentation (instead of the essay)
  • Submissions exceeding the stated limits will not be reviewed
  • Open to Rhode Island high school students (public, private, charter, or parochial) or registered homeschooled students in the state
  • One student per application
  • No financial need demonstration required; no application fee
  • Blind judging (judges do not see applicant names)
  • Submission window January 15 - April 7, 2026, deadline 11:59 p.m.
  • Group projects are not accepted.
  • Previous recipients are ineligible.
