About this scholarship
Open to Canadian Indigenous students enrolled in post-secondary training in Education, Environmental Studies, Indigenous Knowledge, or Telecommunications.
One award of $1,000 is offered through the Arctic Institute of North America. The committee weighs financial need, relevance of study, achievements, return on investment, and overall presentation of the application.
Email applications to aina.scholarships@ucalgary.ca with a cover letter, a program-of-study statement of 500 words or less, transcripts, a signed recommendation from a community leader, a financial-need statement, proof of enrolment or application to a post-secondary institution, and proof of Canadian Indigenous descent.
The scholarship honours the late Hon. James W. Bourque, PC, a Cree and Métis leader in northern resource and Indigenous affairs.

- A signed letter of recommendation from a community leader (e.g., Town or Band Council, Chamber of Commerce, Metis Local)
- A statement of financial need indicating funding already received or expected
- Proof of enrollment in or application to a post-secondary institution
- Proof of Canadian Indigenous descent

- Selection also weighs relevance of study, achievements, return on investment, and overall application presentation.
