The award was established in memory of Dr. I.D. Cotnam by his wife, Mrs. Cecelia Cotnam, and his son, Dr. H.B. Cotnam. Dr. Cotnam was an active medical doctor in the city and area from 1910 until 1965 who shared his knowledge and experience with many nursing students.
