A memorial award made available through an endowment established in memory of Marie-Claire Sylvie McClean (1933-2019). This academic award is made on the recommendation of the Peter A. Allard School of Law.

Sylvie was born in Algeria, earned degrees from the University of Paris Sorbonne, and received an M.A. from UBC in 1968. She taught French at UBC and in several high schools, and was an advocate for women's rights and education. She and her husband Bertie, a former Dean of the Faculty of Law, regularly hosted tutorials in their home for law students enrolled in Bertie's Real Property class.
