About this scholarship
United Methodist students enrolled in post-graduate study at an accredited U.S. college or university who intend to pursue a career in religious journalism may apply. Religion journalism includes news writing for secular and church media, church institutions, and appropriate forms in electronic, broadcast, and print media.
One fellowship provides $6,000 toward graduate study.
Apply by March 15 through the United Methodist Communications ministry scholarship program. The fellowship recognizes Ralph Stoody and Arthur West, leaders in public relations and information services in The United Methodist Church.

- Essay of no more than 500 words about commitment to Christian faith and the intersection of religion and communication.
- Three letters of recommendation from a local church pastor or denominational official, graduate department chair, and employer or supervisor.
- Three examples of journalistic work.
- Recent high-resolution head-and-shoulders photograph.
- Completed application form (submitted electronically or printed and mailed)
- Official transcript(s) from current and all prior institutions, sent directly by the school; must show enrollment as a graduate student in a journalism/communications department of an accredited US co
- Three letters of recommendation: (a) local church pastor or denominational official, (b) chairperson of your graduate major department, (c) an employer or supervisor able to evaluate your journalistic
- Three examples of your journalistic work (audiovisual, electronic, print)
- A recent high-resolution head-and-shoulders photograph in JPG format, suitable for publicity use
- Eligibility: must be a United Methodist student pursuing a career in religion journalism/communications and enrolled in graduate study at a US school
