About this scholarship

For domestic students entering the UBC Peter A. Allard School of Law J.D. program who identify as Black, demonstrate financial need, and have a history of community service or volunteerism. Preference for students with an interest in criminal law.

A $15,000 entrance award from gifts by David St. Pierre, Selwyn Romilly (B.A. 1963, LL.B. 1966), and Matthew Nathanson (LL.B. 1997).

David St. Pierre practiced criminal law before appointment to the Provincial Court of British Columbia. Selwyn Romilly was the first Black judge named to any court in British Columbia. Matthew Nathanson is a criminal defence lawyer in Vancouver. The three established this award to support Black students beginning legal education.
