About this scholarship
Undergraduate and graduate students in degree-granting programs may enter the Society for Linguistic Anthropology annual student essay competition. The paper must be sole-authored original research written while the author was a student, submitted within two years of writing, and not previously published or under review. Papers are judged on clarity, significance, and substantive contribution.
The prize includes a $250 cash award. Undergraduate course papers may be up to 4,000 words; undergraduate theses up to 8,000 words; graduate Gumperz Prize papers up to 10,000 words. Winners also receive a certificate and a small travel grant toward the AAA meeting.
Submit through the SLA undergraduate or graduate Google forms by the posted deadlines. SLA membership is not required to enter.
