About this scholarship
Children of veterans or service members living in Hidalgo or Cameron Counties, Texas, with a minimum 2.7 GPA may apply for vocational or undergraduate study. Applicants must participate in athletics, JROTC, Scouts, civic societies, community volunteering, or employment.
Awards are $2,500, with potential for multiple awards based on available funds, and recipients may receive up to four total awards. Funds go directly to the educational institution. Submit proof of a parent's service, transcript, two letters of recommendation (one professional, one personal), a 750 to 1,000 word essay on service and sacrifice, and a letter of acceptance. First-time applicants apply by mid-March; prior recipients submit a renewal letter earlier with an updated essay and enrollment proof.
