Savitri Ahuja Education Award

First-year Bachelor of Education teacher certification candidates at York University who demonstrate financial need. Preference, in order, for new Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons in Canada less than five years; internationally credentialed teachers seeking further education studies in Canada; or first-in-family university students whose parents are newcomers to Canada.

The award is $5,000 and is renewable for a second year if the recipient completes first year with no failing grades.

Established by a bequest from Savitri Ahuja, a teacher who immigrated to Canada in 1974 and upgraded her credentials at York.
