Open to outstanding Ph.D. students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, have achieved candidacy, and are undertaking cancer research, with a supervisor who has a primary appointment in the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
The fellowship provides $30,000 for one year. Holders may re-apply for a second year; candidates cannot receive support from the fund for more than two years.
Apply with the application form, transcripts, and two blind-review reference letters through the Faculty of Medicine Graduate and Postdoctoral Education office. Awards are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Medicine in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
Roman M. Babicki (1927-2020) established the fellowship through an estate gift so doctoral candidates can devote themselves fully to medical research.
