About this scholarship

U.S. citizens who are Intercollegiate Studies Institute members enrolled full time in a graduate humanities or social sciences program and intend to teach at the college level may apply for the Richard M. Weaver Graduate Fellowship. Pre-professional programs in business, divinity, medicine, or law are ineligible.

Fellowships range from $5,000 to $15,000. ISI awards up to 15 fellowships annually for tuition and living expenses.

Apply by the March deadline through ISI.

The fellowship honors Richard M. Weaver and supports graduate students who will use advanced degrees to teach and uphold academic excellence.

  • Unofficial transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate work
  • A recent, high-resolution photo/headshot
  • One-page CV or resume of prior education, awards, fellowships, and internships
  • A five- to ten-page personal, philosophical, and professional autobiography (12-pt font, double-spaced)
  • A five- to ten-page academic writing sample (12-pt font, double-spaced)
  • Two academic referees' contact info; references submit formal letters of recommendation
  • Unofficial transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work (official transcripts required if award granted)
  • Applicant must be a graduate student (Master's or PhD) intending to pursue a career in college teaching
  • Official transcripts are required if the fellowship is awarded.
  • Application essays address teaching as a profession, desire for a fellowship, and how the applicant learned about the program.
