About this scholarship

Outstanding UBC Vancouver M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in oceans and fisheries studying biological remediation methods of fishery recovery and restoration within marine, estuarine, and/or freshwater ecosystems affected by environmental impacts, particularly pollution and climate change, may be considered for this scholarship, with preference for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students of Canada.

The award amount varies. Scholarships are funded through an endowment established by Richard J. Krejsa (Ph.D. 1965) and Julia Krejsa.

Recipients are recommended by the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. There is no separate student application.

Richard and Julia met at UBC while Ph.D. candidates in the Department of Zoology and the Department of English respectively. Richard is a Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. The scholarship was established in honour of Professor Casimir C. Lindsey and his wife Shelagh P. Lindsey, and in memory of Dean Walter H. Gage (1905-1977).
