About this scholarship

High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors in Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, or St. Tammany Parish may enter the Rau for Art Scholarship Competition. Public, private, parochial, and home-schooled students may submit one original two-dimensional painting or drawing on the annual theme with an artist statement.

Four winners share awards up to $10,000 total, paid directly to their college after high school graduation. Finalists exhibit at M.S. Rau in the French Quarter.

The Rau for Art Foundation was created to identify young artistic talent and give back to the New Orleans community that has supported the gallery.

  • Online competition entry
  • Short artist statement
  • Submit one original two-dimensional artwork (painting or drawing) created during the current school year, based on that year's announced theme
  • Accepted media: oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, graphite, colored pencil, pen and ink, pastel, charcoal, etc.
  • Maximum artwork dimensions: 36 inches high x 36 inches wide
  • Open to students in grades 10-12 (or home-school equivalent) in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, St. Charles, and Plaquemines Parishes (Louisiana)
  • Entries submitted online via the official Submission Form
  • No entry fee
  • Finalists exhibit at M.S. Rau in the French Quarter.
  • Awards are paid to the winner's college after high school graduation.
