Ranjit Singh Azad Memorial Scholarship

Open to UBC Vancouver undergraduate or graduate Creative Writing students who have demonstrated excellence in writing poetry.

Up to two scholarships with varying award amounts may be given. The School of Creative Writing makes the recommendation. There is no separate application.

Ranjit Azad's family established this award in his memory. Until his death in 1985, he pursued a career in labour and immigration with federal and provincial governments, and translated the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam from Persian into his own Punjabi dialect.
