Ranald & Vera Shean Memorial Scholarships

Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 12 or older who live in the Greater Edmonton area or Northern Alberta (including Red Deer and points north), and who are pursuing advanced classical violin or piano study at a recognized post-secondary institution or with a recognized private teacher, may apply for the Ranald & Vera Shean Memorial Scholarships through the Edmonton Community Foundation.

Typically up to 10 awards are given, ranging from about $2,000 to $8,000; size and number may vary. The primary criterion is quality of performance.

Apply with a high-quality recording of at most 20 minutes from three distinct periods. Recordings must not be electronically altered, and each selection needs date and place of recording. Applications open January 15 and close March 31.

Ranald and Vera Shean were Edmonton musicians and teachers inducted into the city’s Cultural Hall of Fame; the fund continues their support for young violin and piano students.
