About this scholarship
High school and college students may compete in Project Yellow Light by creating a distracted-driving PSA as a 10- or 25-second video, billboard design, or radio spot. Separate high school and college categories apply.
Up to six scholarships are awarded, with video first-place winners receiving up to $8,000 and billboard and radio first-place winners receiving up to $2,000 each. Video and radio entries are due April 1; billboards are due March 1.
The competition, named for Hunter Garner, raises awareness about phone use behind the wheel.

- Parent/guardian eligibility form for entrants under age 18
- Creative PSA submission required (NOT an essay): a video (~20-25 sec), a billboard design, a radio spot (20 sec), or a social media post focused on discouraging distracted driving / phone use while dr
- Up to 3 entries allowed per contest category
- Eligibility: high school junior or senior aged 14-20, OR full-time undergraduate/trade/technical school student aged 15-25; under-18 entrants need a parent/guardian eligibility form
- No essay, personal statement, or written short-answer prompt with a word/character limit is part of the application
- Deadlines: billboard designs ~March 1; video/radio/social media ~April 1
- Up to three entries are allowed per contest category.
- The PSA must discourage distracted driving, especially phone use while driving.
