About this scholarship

Michigan State University undergraduate students demonstrating academic achievement and involvement with or contributions to the LGBTQA+ community may apply via the MSU Scholarships portal. Preference is given to incoming first-year or transfer students.

One award is granted annually; the amount varies based on available funding.

Founded in 2000 by Bill Beachler and GLFSA, the Pride Endowed Scholarship is managed by the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center in consultation with EPIC.

  • Personal statement of 500 to 1,000 words addressing academic journey, personal identity, and contributions to the LGBTQIA2S+ community
  • Personal statement / essay must be 500–1000 words (minimum 500, maximum 1000)
  • Curriculum Vitae or resumé required
  • Examples of demonstrated commitment to academic achievement and/or merit
  • Must be an incoming first-year or transfer undergraduate student
  • Must be enrolled at Michigan State University for the upcoming Fall and Spring semesters
  • May mention (but need not prove) financial need
  • Personal statement may address: LGBT community involvement, advocacy/social change, intersecting identities, and challenges navigated related to LGBT involvement or activism
  • Apply through the MSU Scholarships portal.
