About this scholarship
Pennsylvania residents enrolled full-time at a Pennsylvania two- or four-year college or university and pursuing history or an allied field may apply for the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation Essay Scholarship.
Five awards are offered: two at $1,000 and three at $500 for the top essays.
Submit the official application, proof of full-time enrollment, a 250-word personal statement on your engagement with history, and a well-researched essay of up to 1,500 words on an underrecognized person, location, or event in Pennsylvania history with citations. Materials are submitted electronically by May 2.

- Essay must be the original work of the applicant reflecting their own voice and ideas
- 1,500-word maximum excludes citations and sources
- Eight cash awards presented for the best essays (per 2026 cycle); per official Facebook announcement awards include two $1,000 and three $500 prizes
- Application mailed to Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation, 400 North Street, Harrisburg, PA 17120, Attn: Scholarship Committee
- Essay must concern an underrecognized person, location, or event in Pennsylvania history and be the applicant's original work.
