About this scholarship

Student songwriters and composers of Latin music ages 17 to 24 who are based in the United States or Puerto Rico may submit one original, unreleased song or instrumental composition for the annual peermusic Latin Music Award.

One $5,000 award is granted. The winner also receives mentorship from Jorge Luis Chacin. Works must not have been commercially recorded or distributed.

Apply through the BMI Foundation portal. If the work is co-written, list all co-writers on the application. Previous winners are not eligible.

  • One audio file of an original unreleased song or instrumental composition
  • Lyric sheet, if applicable
  • Application listing all co-writers, if applicable
  • Submit one audio file and lyric sheet (if applicable) of an original song in any Latin genre
  • Be between ages 17-24 as of June 30, 2026
  • Be based in the United States or Puerto Rico
  • Only one application per BMI Foundation program; same work cannot be submitted to multiple programs
  • Works must not be assigned to major publishers/labels or have been commercially recorded/distributed
  • Application submitted via a Google Form
  • Co-written works: max 3 writers, all eligible, awards split evenly
  • Submit one work in any Latin music genre.
  • Work must not be assigned to a major publisher or label and must not have been commercially recorded or distributed.
  • Only one BMI Foundation program application is permitted; the same work cannot be submitted to multiple programs.
  • Co-written works may have no more than three writers; all writers must be eligible and any award is split evenly.
  • Previous winners are ineligible.
