About this scholarship
High school seniors residing in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, Santa Clara, or Santa Cruz counties who will attend a four-year college and pursue a career as a medical doctor may apply.
Scholarship amounts vary; awards of up to $30,000 are distributed over five years covering four undergraduate years and the first year of medical school.
Complete the online application with a 1,000-word personal statement on your interest in medicine, background, life experiences, and financial need. FAFSA completion is required. Minimum 3.5 GPA and demonstrated financial need are expected.
Dr. Richard Babb, a gastroenterologist at PAMF's Palo Alto Clinic, started this program in 1993.

- FAFSA/Student Aid Index documentation if available, or supplemental explanation of financial need
- Anticipate a career as a medical doctor and plan to take pre-medicine courses to prepare for medical school
- Live in a geographic region served by the Palo Alto Medical Foundation: Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties
- Maintain a minimum high school GPA of 3.5; maintain a minimum college GPA of 3.0 (verified by transcript)
- Demonstrate financial need (verified by supporting financial documentation)
- One letter of recommendation from a teacher or school guidance counselor
- High school grade transcript
- Copy of SAT and/or ACT transcripts (if applicable)
- If available, copy of Student Aid Index (SAI)/FAFSA; if not available, explain financial need as a supplemental document
- Open to local high school seniors who will attend a four-year college; applications accepted ~December through April; award up to $30,000 over five years
- Supporting documents emailed in PDF format to scholarship@sutterhealth.org; incomplete applications will not be considered
- Recipients must maintain at least a 3.0 college GPA, verified by transcript, for continued funding.
- SAT and/or ACT transcripts are requested if applicable.
