About this scholarship
Open to UBC student volunteers participating in an Office of Regional and International Community Engagement (ORICE) experiential education program who are part of historically, persistently, or systematically marginalized communities. ORICE leaves the definition of marginalized groups open-ended and trusts students to self-identify.
Awards totalling $3,000 are made available annually; the per-recipient amount varies. Funding takes the form of a taxable honorarium distributed before the program begins.
Students opt in to be considered through the application for the ORICE program they wish to join. Recipients are selected through a randomized draw, with anonymity preserved, and awards are made on the recommendation of the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs.
