About this scholarship
Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are Alberta residents, enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution, and entering the final year of their first undergraduate certificate, degree, or diploma program may apply. Preference goes to students from the Calgary area.
One award of approximately $2,500 is applied directly to tuition; additional smaller awards may be available. Applicants must demonstrate volunteerism and service to youth, leadership, financial need, and good academic standing (cumulative GPA of 2.7 / 70% or higher), and provide one letter of reference.
The Optimist Club William J. Cummer Scholarship was established in 2008 for the Optimist Club of Calgary's 70th anniversary and long-standing member William J. Cummer, who joined in 1956 and helped charter many Optimist Clubs in Alberta.
