Northern Scientific Training Program

Students registered at a Canadian university or Northern post-secondary institution who are the primary researcher on thesis research may apply for Northern Scientific Training Program support. Research assistants (except students from post-secondary institutions under the program rules) are not eligible. Funding offsets high northern research costs such as transportation, living costs, shipping, and interpreter fees.

Support is up to $6,000 per year, for up to two years at the master's level or up to three years at the doctoral level for thesis-based research. Apply through the university Northern Studies Committee and the NSTP online process.

The program aims to increase the number of students with northern studies specialization and northern research experience.
