About this scholarship
MSW students demonstrating interest in health or mental health practice and a commitment to African American communities may apply. NASW membership and admission to a CSWE-accredited MSW program are required with a 3.0+ GPA.
Two $4,000 scholarships are awarded for 2026-27 (guidelines state two awards; four scholars listed for the cycle).
Applications run January through March; the 2026 cycle is closed. Submit biographical essay, need statement, two professional references, official transcript, and release.
The memorial fund honors NASW leader Verne LaMarr Lyons and his work on health disparities affecting African Americans.
