About this scholarship

Material Advantage student members studying minerals, metals, and materials science and engineering may apply. Most undergraduate awards target full-time sophomores and juniors with at least a 3.0 GPA; separate graduate awards such as the Henry DeWitt Smith Scholarship support PhD students.

Named scholarships include Acta Materialia ($5,000), Structural Materials Division ($2,500), Light Metals ($2,500), and Extraction and Processing (up to three at $2,500). TMS awards nearly $30,000 annually. Recipients may receive up to $500 travel reimbursement to accept awards at the TMS Annual Meeting.

Apply online by March 15 with application form, 200-word statement, resume, transcript, and three recommendations. Students may apply for up to two TMS scholarships but receive only one per year.

The TMS Foundation funds these awards through division endowments and industry partners to support the next generation of materials professionals.
