About this scholarship

Undergraduate students enrolled at accredited two- or four-year colleges in Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia who demonstrate interest in journalism careers may apply. Journalism major is not required, but active involvement in student or professional journalism in the national capital region is expected, along with a minimum 2.5 GPA. DACA recipients and international students attending U.S. colleges in the DMV are eligible.

Awards up to $5,000 per academic year are paid directly to the student's institution. Multiple recipients are selected annually; the 2025-26 cycle granted three $5,000 awards.

Applications including transcripts and recommendations are due by midnight ET on February 17 each year. Finalists are interviewed by a panel of working journalists; winners are announced by late March.

The SDX Foundation is the nonprofit education arm of the Washington, D.C. Pro SPJ chapter.
