About this scholarship
Two tracks: four renewable $8,000 scholarships ($2,000 per year for up to four years) for graduating high school seniors who are dependents of AFT members in good standing for at least one year; and ten one-time $1,000 grants for AFT members pursuing continuing education or union-strengthening projects.
Student awards require community service, leadership, and an essay on advancing working people; member grants fund professional development or union initiatives.
Student applications run December 1 through March 31 (2026 cycle accepted through April 24); winners notified by June 30.
Named for longtime AFT secretary-treasurer Robert G. Porter, the program honors union activism and educational achievement.
