About this scholarship

Full-time undergraduate juniors or seniors, or graduate students, studying illumination at an accredited four-year college or university in Northern California, Nevada, Oregon, or Washington may apply. Graduate applicants must be undertaking a lighting-centered thesis or project.

Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 for fall-semester study in architecture, electrical engineering, interior design, theatre, lighting design, or related fields.

Submit an application, statement of purpose, resume, and at least three recommendation letters (one from a lighting professional or academic) by April 30 each year.

The IES San Francisco Section honors Robert W. Thunen, a regional lighting engineer and educator.

Essay question
