About this scholarship
High school seniors applying to an accredited U.S. college or university who plan to pursue journalism careers and hold at least a 3.0 GPA may apply. U.S. citizenship is not required.
Recipients receive a one-time $5,000 scholarship toward educational expenses.
Applications are due March 1 each year through the NPC Journalism Institute online portal; the 2026 winners were announced in spring 2026.
Named for longtime National Press Club member Richard G. Zimmerman, who endowed the award before his death in 2008.
