About this scholarship

High school seniors graduating between January 1 and August 31 may compete if they are Modern Woodmen members covered by a qualifying life insurance policy or annuity for at least one year as of January 1. Applicants need at least 40 volunteer hours in the prior two years and a minimum 3.5 GPA (Track 1) or 2.5 GPA (Track 2), and must plan accredited postsecondary enrollment in the upcoming fall.

The program awards about $450,000 annually across 198 scholarships: Track 1 offers 48 awards from $2,500 to $10,000 based on volunteer service and academics; Track 2 offers 150 awards of $1,000 each for volunteer service. Winners are selected by an independent panel from six geographic regions.

Applications open November 1 each year and are due the first Monday in February through Scholarship America. Winners are notified in April.

Modern Woodmen of America is a fraternal benefit society founded in 1883. This member-only competition is one of its flagship youth education programs.
