About this scholarship
US students enrolled at any US university in technical, natural science, or economics fields with strong academic records may apply for supervised research stays at Austrian partner universities. Austrian students may also visit US institutions under the reciprocal program.
Grants range from €4,000 for a 3-month stay to €6,000 for 5 months, with bonuses for longer stays and for master's or PhD candidates (up to roughly €10,000 total). Fellows must produce a research paper and field report after the visit.
Secure faculty supervision at both home and host universities, then submit complete application documents to the international office of an Austrian partner university, which forwards proposals to the Foundation. Calls run twice yearly in spring and fall; the next fall call is September 1 to October 30, 2026.
The Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation has funded more than 1,300 US-Austria research exchanges since 2008.
