About this scholarship

Law students enrolled at an Illinois law school with at least one year remaining may apply. Applicants must show financial need, pro bono or community service experience, and may not have a close family member who is a judge.

Multiple scholarships are awarded annually in varying amounts, with a top award of $7,500 applied to tuition. Funds are paid directly to the law school.

The FY 2026-2027 application was open with a June 26, 2026 submission deadline when checked; that date had just passed in July 2026.

The Illinois Judges Foundation runs this program, including the Justice Mary Jane Theis Scholarship.
