About this scholarship

College-bound seniors at participating Washington, D.C. public and public charter high schools may apply online. Awards are based primarily on academic achievement; principals and school nominating committees at participating schools select recipients from eligible applicants. Approximately 50 scholarships are granted each spring.

Each scholar receives $20,000 paid over college, plus access to Scholars to Leaders programming: mentoring with Economic Club members, leadership seminars, summer internship opportunities, alumni networking, and eligibility for the Vernon E. Jordan, Jr. Fellowship for post-graduate study.

The online application for 2026-27 closed January 31, 2026. The program has awarded nearly $14 million to 861 scholars since 2009 and renews annually.

The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. is a nonprofit whose Education Committee, led by Bank of America Greater Washington president Larry Di Rita, administers the Rubenstein scholarship program.
