About this scholarship
US or Canadian citizens and permanent residents, plus foreign nationals whose last degree is from the US or Canada, may apply for a full master's degree at a German state or state-recognized university. Final-year undergraduates and recent graduates (within six years of the last degree) in any academic discipline are eligible, except applicants in art, design, film, performing arts, and architecture who must use DAAD subject-specific programs.
The award pays a monthly stipend of €992, health and liability insurance, a travel allowance on application, and an annual study allowance of €460. Funding follows the standard period of the chosen master's program, typically 10 to 24 months, with a language course possible before study begins.
Apply through the DAAD online portal via the US/Canada country-specific guidelines. The deadline is October 30 each year for an October start the following year; partner universities may run earlier campus pre-selection in the fall. Results are posted in the portal in early April.
DAAD is Germany's national agency for academic exchange, funded by the German federal government.
