About this scholarship
U.S. medical students in any year (preference for first- and second-year students) may apply for an eight-week mentored summer research experience in radiation oncology. The program targets students from groups underrepresented in medicine and others exploring rad onc careers.
The total package is $6,000: a $4,000 summer stipend, $1,000 upon final report submission, and $1,000 toward 2027 ASTRO Annual Meeting travel. Awardees submit an abstract and attend program webinars and the meeting.
The 2026 application period is closed; ASTRO lists 2026 awardees and runs the fellowship annually with a winter deadline.
ASTRO's Medical Student Fellowship introduces students to clinical, basic, and translational radiation oncology research early in medical school.
