AMS First-Year Undergraduate Scholarship

High school students entering college in fall 2026 may apply if they are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, hold at least a 3.0 GPA, and plan to pursue atmospheric, oceanic, or hydrologic sciences. Marine biology does not qualify.

The stipend totals $5,000, paid as $2,500 in the freshman year and $2,500 in the sophomore year if the first year is completed successfully.

Applications are due in early February each year (February 6, 2026 for the current cycle). Required materials include application form, unofficial transcript, optional school profile, and one recommendation letter.

AMS and industry sponsors fund this program to encourage study in the atmospheric and related sciences.
