About this scholarship
Members of emerging communities (immigrant, refugee, or families including immigrants/refugees facing education or employment barriers) who are residents of greater Edmonton may apply. International students are ineligible. Applicants must attend or plan to attend a greater Edmonton post-secondary institution in a program leading to an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate (not graduate, academic upgrading, or college prep).
Typically ~40 students receive $1,000 to $3,000 awards annually. Priority for Edmonton-area residents with community volunteerism, financial need, and public-institution enrollment. Students may reapply but receive the award at most twice.
Apply online by June 1 with a letter of reference; proof of enrollment required before disbursement. Managed through a partnership of ECF, Africa Centre, and National Bank of Canada.
The EREC fund at Edmonton Community Foundation supports refugee and emerging-community students in the capital region.
