About this scholarship

JD, LLB, or BCL students, articling students, and judicial clerks across Canada may submit scholarly papers on constitutionalism, fundamental freedoms, or the rule of law.

The winner receives $5,000 and the runner-up $3,000, with publication opportunities in the Supreme Court Law Review or Dicey Law Review.

Papers of 5,000 to 10,000 words are emailed by mid-May each year. The 2026 deadline was May 16, 2026.

The Runnymede Society, a Canadian legal advocacy organization, established this prize honoring William Blackstone.
