About this scholarship
New York City high school students who reside and attend school in one of the five boroughs, demonstrate financial need, and will be incoming freshmen at an eligible New England college or university (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont) may apply for scholarships from the New England Society in the City of New York (NES). Students attending schools that meet full demonstrated need without loans are not eligible.
Scholarships of up to $25,000 per student over four years are sent directly to the college. Awards supplement, but do not displace, other grants or aid.
Submit the completed application through the portal. Finalists are interviewed before a final decision.
NES awards the scholarships to reduce student loan liability for NYC students continuing their education in New England.

- New England essay response of 250 words or fewer
- Must be an incoming college freshman enrolling at an eligible New England college/university (CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, or VT)
- Must live and attend high school in one of the five boroughs of New York City

- Selection based on need, community service, and merit
- Finalists must be available to attend a required in-person interview with the Scholarship Committee
