About this scholarship
Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled for spring semester at U.S. four-year colleges who are pursuing photojournalism or visual journalism may apply for National Press Photographers Foundation scholarships. Applicants must demonstrate dedication to the field and adherence to the NPPA Code of Ethics.
Eleven scholarships of $2,500 are awarded through one application. Submit a professor recommendation on university letterhead, a CV form, three or four one-page essays, and a portfolio via Picter. Applications open in early December and close February 6 at 5:59 p.m. ET.
NPPF supports emerging photographers with financial assistance, mentorship, and professional development.

- Portfolio of visual work submitted through Picter with properly formatted IPTC metadata
- Completed NPPF Scholarship CV form (PDF) submitted via the Picter application portal
- Portfolio of visual work (images, picture stories, and/or videos) with properly formatted IPTC metadata
- Confirmation of adherence to the NPPA Code of Ethics
- Overall GPA on a 4-point scale
- Must be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program with a campus student publication
- Clarkson Scholarship applicants must also submit the leadership statement and a second recommendation letter from a non-academic person
- Applicants for the Clarkson Scholarship must additionally submit a leadership statement and a second non-academic recommendation.
