About this scholarship

Legally blind residents of or students in Illinois who are enrolled full-time in an accredited two-year, four-year, or graduate college or university program may apply for National Federation of the Blind of Illinois (NFBI) scholarships. Applicants must be at least 18 by the beginning of July. Awards are based on academic excellence and service to the community.

Awards start at $5,000; at least one scholarship is offered. Previous applicants are encouraged to reapply.

Submit the Illinois state scholarship application with proof of legal blindness, academic records, and letters of recommendation. Finalists must attend the entire NFBI state convention (which may be virtual) and may be interviewed.
