Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Research Studies Scholarship Programme

Canadian citizens may apply through the Japanese diplomatic mission in their province for graduate research study in Japan. The MEXT Research Studies Scholarship supports non-degree, master's, or doctoral study in a field related to the applicant's prior academic background. Applicants must hold at least a bachelor's degree.

Coverage includes tuition, a monthly allowance, and round-trip travel. Program duration is typically two years starting in April or 18 months starting in October, with possible extension if the student proceeds to a further degree.

The selection process includes document review, examinations in Japanese and English, and an interview. Applicants must obtain letters of provisional acceptance from a Japanese university.
