About this scholarship

Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship alumni who are Ph.D. candidates in eligible Mellon-designated fields may apply for pre-dissertation travel and research support.

Awards of up to $5,000 cover one summer or one semester of research travel, site access, document copying, or database fees. Funds cannot be used for living expenses, tuition, or hardware.

Candidates must have passed comprehensive exams, completed coursework, and received dissertation-topic approval from their advisor. Submit a research plan, budget, transcript, and one advisor recommendation by February 27 at 5 p.m. ET.

  • Open to current/former Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows pursuing a PhD; grant funds dissertation travel/research
