About this scholarship
Minnesota 11th graders who reside in a Minnesota township and attend a public, private, parochial, or home-study high school may apply.
Up to five $2,000 scholarships are awarded annually. Children, stepchildren, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, siblings, or stepsiblings of MAT directors or staff are ineligible.
Submit an application, a 450-to-500-word essay on the annual township topic, a current transcript, and a counselor or teacher recommendation in one envelope postmarked by June 1. The program raises awareness of grassroots township government across Minnesota.

- Must attend a Minnesota public, private, parochial school or approved home-study program
- Must reside in a Minnesota township (new for 2026)
- Must plan to pursue higher education at a college, university, or vocational school
- Cannot be related to MAT Directors or staff members
- Required materials: application form, essay, high school transcript, teacher/counselor recommendation letter
- Application must be postmarked by June 1
- Essay must be typed and double-spaced and must not identify the applicant, school, town/city, or local officials.
