About this scholarship

UBC Vancouver undergraduate students in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences who are participating in a field course at the Geological Field Station may be considered. Preference is given first to First Nations, Inuit, or Metis students of Canada majoring in Geophysics, then to other Geophysics majors. If no suitable candidate is identified, the award may go to students in other EOAS majors with the same preference for Indigenous students.

Variable awards are funded through an endowment established by Dr. Hugh Miller (Ph.D. UBC 1973).

Recipients are selected on the recommendation of the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences. There is no separate student application.

Hugh Miller is a geophysicist who taught at Memorial University of Newfoundland from 1979 until 2007 and served as a past president of Geoscientists Canada.
