Milena and Kvetoslav Janda Memorial Award in Opera

Talented undergraduate and graduate singers in the UBC Vancouver School of Music who are pursuing a degree in opera may be nominated. Financial need may be considered.

Awards are drawn from a $5,200 endowment established by family and friends in memory of Milena and Kvetoslav Janda. Per-recipient amounts are not fixed. Recipients are chosen on the recommendation of the Opera Division; for graduate students, the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is consulted. There is no separate student application.

Milena Janda (B.A. 1956) coached generations of opera singers at UBC in Czech, and Kvetoslav Janda (B.Com. 1955) was a political activist in Czechoslovakia before becoming a public servant in Canada.
