Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements

Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons who hold an active CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC master's or doctoral award (including Vanier CGS) may apply for a Canada Research Training Awards Suite - Research Travel Supplement (CRTAS-RTS). The $9,000 non-renewable supplement helps offset research travel costs within or outside Canada for two to six months.

Up to 250 supplements are available each year across the three agencies. Applicants must not have held a CGS-Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement or a prior CRTAS-RTS. Submit the CRTAS-RTS application form as a single PDF by the agency deadline. This program replaces the former CGS-Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements.
